The Process

If you’re anything like me, you don’t love chocolate bars. Too dry, too sweet, or just not good enough in general.

That’s why I was so excited to try these protein chocolate bars from The Lean Green Bean. They’re made with 18 grams of high-quality protein and only 4 net carbs for a decadent taste that’s actually good for you!

You start by making the crust: mix together 1/2 cup of almond flour, 1/4 cup of cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of chia seeds, and a pinch of salt. Add in 2 tablespoons of melted butter and press into the bottom of an 8×8 inch baking pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. While the crust is baking, make the filling: melt 3 ounces of dark chocolate (70% or higher), 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1/4 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of maple syrup, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a microwave-safe bowl or on the stovetop. Once melted, add in 2 cups of full-fat milk and stir until well combined. Pour mixture over crust and spread evenly. refrigerate for at least two hours or overnight.

Tips for Making Delicious Protein Chocolate Bars

Protein chocolate bars are a great way to pack in protein and flavor. Here are some tips for making protein chocolate bars that actually taste good:

  1.  Use high-quality chocolate. Dark chocolate is the best choice because it has more antioxidants, which will make the bars taste better.
  2.  Use a good ratio of protein to carbs. The key to making protein chocolate bars that taste good is to use a balance of both protein and carbs so they don’t get too heavy or bland. Try using 50 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs per bar.
  3.  Use healthy fats. Add some healthy fats like coconut oil or nuts to give the bars a boost of flavor and nutrition.
  4.  Use a sweetener sparingly. If you use too much sweetener, the bars will be too sweet and artificial tasting. Try using just 1-2 teaspoons of sweetener per bar instead of using an entire cup of sugar or honey.
  5. Be creative! There are endless ways to make protein chocolate bars that are delicious and nutritious! Try adding different types of nuts, dried fruit, or spices to create your own unique recipe.
